I wrote this piece for the now defunct Un Chin magazine. Formerly based in NYC, Un Chin was a magazine for the growing upwardly mobile group of Latinos and Hispanics in America that serve as a bridge between two cultures. These are the children of immigrants, they themselves are first generation Americans fulfilling their parents desire to obtain more than prior generations—more education, more fulfillment…This piece was timed around the 10th anniversary of the death of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. The essence of the piece was the focus on her success, the path she paved for many entertainers today, and the stress on immigrants to assimilate.
